A few days after coming back from Madrid I am trying to put my thoughts together about the most enjoyable and inspiring event I have ever attended, Campus Party Europe: a special edition.
800 young people passionate about technology gathered in La Caja Mágica, a multifunctional centre designed by architect Dominique Perrault, and watched inspiring talks, presented their projects, exchanged ideas, met each other in a friendly environment furnished with huge comfortable pouffes and couches!
My mind is full of images of people from different countries laying on the pouffes with their laptops on their laps exchanging resources, tweeting, blogging, playing network games…
Participating in the Digital Creativity section I had the chance to watch presentations from professionals like Paul Bennett, partner and Creative Director of IDEO, Ben Hammersley, editor of Wired UK, Toni Segarra, selected as one of the “100 top creative minds” in the world by the British company Shots, Sebastian Sylwan, Head of Research and Development at Weta Digital and many more.
Everything was a great source of inspiration: the projects, the presenters, the participants, even the city itself or the volunteers who were all helpful and welcoming!
“FROM DESIGN TO DESIGN THINKING”, Paul Bennett
“We care about if our clients make money but we don’t design things just to make money. They have to have value to somebody.”
“I say this to clients a lot: Just because you can, it doesn’t mean you should. […] Yes, you can design something that ‘s gonna make a cup of tea and wash your clothes but do you really need it?”
“DREAMING PILLOW”, a project by Armella Leung and Olivier Oswald
“WELCOME TO BEIRUT”, a documentary by Diego Hurtado de Mendoza
A TASTE OF THE PARTY
Campuseros… hasta luego!
A big thanks to the Greek community for the exchange of ideas and inspiration:
